Well it wasn't the long awaited visit we have been looking for, but I guess they are still working on it! My husband and I have been waiting for over 5 weeks for a reply back from the elders as to the date discrepancy of 607 (between the Watchtower references and the Appendix.)We blew them away when they were here, and said they would go do the research...until today we have heard nothing from anyone. The elder that showed up said that the elders that had been here were still trying to get together info. for us...."Good Luck!!" We specifically were told by the other elders that our meeting was confidential. Yet this elder knew all about it! It's amazing! So.. we still await the BIG reply!

Easy Math for 586/587
by Mrs.Congeniality inplease keep in mind while reviewing this that adding years is actually going back in time.
also keep in mind that i am agreeing with the years of reign with the society not the years.
be open minded when you look at this and you too can see how 586/587 comes about.

Here it is from the Daniel book for any who don't have a copy.

THE REIGN OF JEHOIAKIM
14
Daniel 1:1 reads: "In the third year of the kingship of Jehoiakim the king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and proceeded to lay siege to it." Critics have found fault with this scripture because it does not seem to agree with Jeremiah, who says that the fourth year of Jehoiakim was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar. (Jeremiah 25:1; 46:2) Was Daniel contradicting Jeremiah? With more information, the matter is readily clarified. When first made king in 628 B.C.E. by Pharaoh Necho, Jehoiakim became a mere puppet of that Egyptian ruler. This was about three years before Nebuchadnezzar succeeded his father to the throne of Babylon, in 624 B.C.E. Soon thereafter (in 620 B.C.E.), Nebuchadnezzar invaded Judah and made Jehoiakim a vassal king under Babylon. (2 Kings 23:34; 24:1) To a Jew living in Babylon, Jehoiakim’s "third year" would have been the third year of that king’s vassal service to Babylon. Daniel wrote from that perspective. Jeremiah, however, wrote from the perspective of the Jews living right in Jerusalem. So he referred to Jehoiakim’s kingship as starting when Pharaoh Necho made him king.Page 46
Chapter Four
The Rise and Fall of an Immense ImageA DECADE has passed since King Nebuchadnezzar brought Daniel and other "foremost men of the land" of Judah into captivity in Babylon. (2 Kings 24:15) Young Daniel is serving in the king’s court when a life-threatening situation arises. Why should this interest us? Because the way that Jehovah God intervenes in the matter not only saves the lives of Daniel and others but also gives us a view of the march of world powers of Bible prophecy leading into our times.A MONARCH FACES A DIFFICULT PROBLEM
2
"In the second year of the kingship of Nebuchadnezzar," wrote the prophet Daniel, "Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams; and his spirit began to feel agitated, and his very sleep was made to be something beyond him." (Daniel 2:1) The dreamer was Nebuchadnezzar, the king of the Babylonian Empire. He had effectively become world ruler in 607 B.C.E. when Jehovah God allowed him to destroy Jerusalem and its temple. In the second year of Nebuchadnezzar’s reign as world ruler (606/605 B.C.E.), God sent him a terrifying dream. -

Little Bo Peep brought out a interesting point a while back. Seems even the Daniel book shows the different dates on different pages, check it out!
Page 18, says Nebuchadnezzar succeeded to the throne in 624 BCE, page 46 says his second year was 606/605 BCE.

What I love about this is the fact that the Watchtowers own references support this math! But the Appendix to the Kingdome Come book contradicts it!! Amazing!! I used this with the elders and they were stumped! It has been over 5 weeks now and they still have no explanation. Posing this conflict with the Watchtowers own literature, could get our friends and family to listen to us, because we are not attacting the Watchtower. By trying to figure it out, it may raise questions in their own minds, spurring them on to do further research. Great job Sis!

Comeback from witness...interesting
by integ ini asked my uncle elder about the scripture that says; "keep testing to make sure you are in the faith" or something to that effect, to kind of try to explain why i have the audacity to question watchtower doctrine.
his response was something i guess i knew, but had forgotten.."that doesn't mean to keep testing the teachings of the faithful slave, it means that we need to keep testing 'ourselves' to make sure we are still faithful to gods' organization".
i had forgotten the spin on that scripture, and all i could do was shake my head and say "okay, whatever".

integ,
The scripture is 1 John 4:1 - Interestingly if you continue reading on thru verse 6, the picture is clearer. The later half of verse 6 says' "This is how we take note of the inspired expression of truth and the inspired expression of error." The Watchtower doesn't claim to be inspired, so they say... thus they would be prone to errors. Therefore, doesn't it make sence that a true follower of Christ Jesus would follow the scriptures instructions? After all, what would it hurt?? If the Watchtower is in line with the Bible, shouldn't a thorough examaination just strenghten our faith? Unless of course, we were to find MAJOR flaws?? Acts 17:11 says, ".....for they recieved the word with the greatest eagernesss of mind, carefully examining the Scriptures daily as to wether these things were so." The Society likes to say those Beroeans that were doing the "examining", were unbelievers. So does that mean that once we become believers, we are never to "examine" what we are being taught? One way I have used to reason this same point out is, why would the Beroeans be told to "examine" Gods own inspired words, yet we cannot examine the Societies, who claim NOT to be inspired?? I doesn't make sence. If Jehovah God himself was not offended that these ones would question his faithful ones who were dispencing this "food" back then, then why would he be offended if we question, or "examine" the things taught by the Watchtower who are NOT inspired? Again, a thorough examination should only be faith strengthening if we were being taught Bible truths.
Anyway, thought my 2 cents may help you somehow!

Disfellowshipped and lonely
by ryry ini was disfellowshipped in 2003. systematically my family stopped talking to me.
i am only 22 years old and i feel a big void in my life.
what can i do to feel better?

Dear RYRY,
Don't forget the power of prayer! Pray that your families hearts may open one day. I know my heart did. My brother at a very young age was disfellowshipped too. Being raised a VERY strict JW we of course followed proceedure and shunned him. Thinking it would help him come around, we did it out of love. But we also did it out of policy. Later he was reinstated, only to drift away, back into the world. The elders decided to one day pay a visit to him and after telling them he just wanted to be left alone, and that he wasn't claiming to be a witness anymore, they publically disassociated him. Which requires the same treatment as disfellowshipping. At first, we once again followed proceedure. His life was on spin cycle. Drugs finally landed him in 6 months pre-prison. Thats when my family and me realized if we ever wanted to truely help him, we needed to actually SHOW him love. We supported him the whole time he was there. Visiting him as often as we could. After he served his time the authorities told my parents that they felt he wouldn't be back, and would be one of the few that would staighten out their life. The next step for him was hard core prison time. The authorities felt it was all the love and support his family had shown. Although I must admit I still prayed he would come back to the organization, I realized how very much I loved him! And my- o -my, how things have changed since those days. Its been several years now, and he has his life back together. My parents and all my siblings, my husband and daughter and myself, are also out! It took a long time. And like you must feel, he too was very lonely for many years. The thought of that just breaks my heart! I cannot change the way I acted. But I am determined now, to help any and all that need someone! So welcome aboard, and NEVER give up on them. Pray for their hearts to open. Until then, use the time you have to make new friends, like the ones here that will give you much insight and wisdom.
Sincerely,
Lady Liberty

Welcome Parlay,
I too came on board today! Although my husband and I had been watching this sight for a year now. Isn't it amazing how no one knows what to say to that line of reasoning! I have used it myself, witth the same results..NOTHING! They don't know how to respond! I really appreciate you coming forward to tell your story. I was, and still am, amazed at how many JWs are leaving. Everyday more and more get the nerve to post here. Thank you, and we look forward to hearing more of your experiences in JW land!
